What are Drama Games?
In any setting, drama games can be used to explore the physical space, character, text and speech. Through dramatic exploration, drama games are used to activiate, and harness the imagination and spontaneous play. Drama games are also used as a tool to establish rules, structure, concentration and discipline.
Drama games must occur under the guidance and encouragment of a leader who ensures that their environment of play is a safe, creative space where everyone is seen as an equal, and where the rights and freedoms of the individual/ensemble are upheld as sacred.
Below is a list of some tried and true Drama games. This list is by no means complete and will continue to change, evolve and grow with the support and input from our community of passionate drama practitioners and enthusiasts.
Thsi is simply the beginning...a pebble in the pond and I invite you to add your own game favourites to this blog. Or even better if you have a blog or web site you would like us to link to share it with us! Please source and acknowledge where you received your information from as best you can.
Some favourites for sure of mine are games created by Augusto Boal, Keith Johnstone, Jonathan Neelands and Viola Spolin. That being said, I discovered a very comprehensive and straight forward manual and web site of games by David Farmer. Be sure to check out his site - not only will you find a great library of games, but this site is full of lesson ideas, resources etc. Please click on the link below for games and much, much more!
